Matthias Lanzinger Crash Leads To Leg Amputation

Austrian skier Matthias Lanzinger was in a stable condition on Tuesday after undergoing an emergency amputation of his lower left leg.

Doctors said Lanzinger, who broke the leg in a World Cup race in Norway on Sunday, might have died without the operation.

Shocking, both his legs just snapped and hes out cold as soon as he hits the snow/ice, takes some balls to do what these skiers do.
 
Strange really as Ski Sunday was showing some of the Horror crashes World Cup races through history and did an article on the Medical teams that line the slopes of a race meeting.

what's up with that ski binding not un-clipping? geeez really horrible to watch and hopefully he was out cold while the ski did'nt un-clip :eek:
 
That is absolutely terrible... poor guy. Very sad indeed.

I agree though - how did that left ski not come off?? the stress on that binding must've been enormous

really hope he was out early enough in that to not feel the immense pain that would have been shooting through his body!
 
Pretty sure he was out for the count the second he hit the floor, probably made the injury worse as well as after that he was just a rag doll.

That ski took his leg :( as others have said should have come off, anyone know why it wouldn't have? was it a fluke?
 
I bet he will feel his life is pretty much over now. Dreadful. There cant have been much of leg left, must have spun round about 3 times :(
