Hi,

I'm looking to configure a small (mATX) build to replace my parents ageing computer.

Before purchasing the parts I just wanted to make sure that the following are compatible / suitable:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £214.57 (includes shipping: £11.70)

General use is internet browsing / listening to music / using the Office 2016 suite.

Any suggestions / improvements would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Alex

I'd consider another cooler as that one looks like it won't be a lot better than stock. I don't know about AM4 Athlons but the Ryzen chips seem to be fine on stock coolers. It's more for either noise, or overclocking, that people upgrade. Maybe try stock and be prepared to upgrade later?

I'd check that RAM in a compatibility list. But speeds look fine. There may be some RAM with better CL timings for the same price too.

Assuming you have a system drive and PSU?

Also consider a more modern case with room for a little cable management and PSU that can draw air from outside the case - but those are both fairly personal choices. For this purpose any case will probably do as there's no serious heat to dissipate.

Looks good though :)

Hi Lucky,

Thanks for the responses.

By stock cooler do you mean this one? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-wraith-spire-ryzen-am4-non-rgb-cooler-hs-005-am.html

I will check the RAM you suggested against the compatibility list for the mobo.

With regard to the case which of the following would you pick?

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...o-atx-case-black-cc-9011086-ww-ca-212-cs.html

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/kolink-citadel-micro-atx-case-black-ca-03k-kk.html

The above all have cable management and better cooling then the original case.

A little research tells me that this Athlon comes with a much simpler cooler - just an aluminium heatsink and fan. But probably quite comparable with the Arctic you listed.

Those cases all look like an improvement and I think it scales with price - the Corsair looks excellent and the CM pretty good (stylish but maybe less airflow?). The Kolink actually has a PSU shroud which might hide excess PSU cables as you don't have many components. It will probably do the job great.

You could also consider stepping down to an A series motherboard as you won't be overclocking I assume, but possibly not worth it for the minor savings.

I checked the Memory QVL (Raven Ridge) list for the motherboard and the faster RAM is not listed. I can however see the slower RAM.

If I was to buy the faster RAM would it work or just encounter problems as it is not on the list?

Alternatively should I just stick with the slower original RAM?
