Max capacity memory card for a camera?

I've been given a Canon Powershot A30 (at least 5 or 6 years old) but it's only got a 16MB compact flash memory card.

Does anyone know off the top of their heads

what the maximum capacity memory card I can stick in and use?

For the sake of a tenner I can get a 1GB card and a cheap camera for taking out on nights out without the worry of damaging my good one

Camera takes only Compact Flash 1, see here.

Don't really want to buy one and find it won't work!

Did not know Type I reached 4GB, assumed max 1GB

My really old Canon IXUS v3 digital will happily write to my 16gb CF cards...

So im sure your newer A30 wont have any issues with any sized cards you stick in it.
