Hi, been a while since i been to these forum since the system was whiped  Anyway I've been on 1mb with AOL for about a year now and somhow managed to upgrade to platinum tho the BT checker say's 1mb is the max.I should have maxDSL in next 2-3 days which is where the problem is.I have a BT 105 modem and a NetGear DG834G v2 router
Line stats from BT 105 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/shebalator/BTstats.jpg
Line stats from Netgear http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/shebalator/Netgearstats.jpg
The Netgear gives a lot better SNR but after say...8hrs uptime for example it drops to 6dB and stays at that where as the BT 105 stays at 15-16 SNR.
So what should i use
Also whats the best modem to use for a long line to get best maxdsl speed?
Thx in Advance :)
PS
BT Checker says 1Mb but 1.5Mb or greater for Max DSL

Went on AOL live help asked if i could be upgraded so i could get MaxDSL, AOL tecy said it was fine and placed order for me for platinum :) I hear a lot of ppl have a hard time upgraded speed when BT cheker says nono, I'm one of the lucky one's.

OMG!!!!!!!!! i love you!!!!! after 15+ AOL phone calls and getting no where, 5mins on LIVE HELP and i get it!!!!!!!!!!! i love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kISSKISSKISSKISSKISSKISS

19:36:47 Vikas Chhaunkar Thank you for providing your validation information! I have successfully validated your account from the information you just filled in.
19:37:30 Vikas Chhaunkar I see that you may have broadband platinum on your line
19:37:39 Vikas Chhaunkar Would you like me to gook this for you ?

allthough i have no idea what "gook this" means ;P but as long as i get platinum who am i to complain

VeggieUK and D3fine, you are 2 extremely lucky people as I have tried 'live help' and the (useless) AOL customer helpline loads of times but don't seem to get anywhere :(

You try it and you get upgraded to Max DSL straight away! :envy:

i also asked about the wireless router, and he said becuase i am a valued customer he would give me the router free of charge too!!!! btw i have tried live help before-around 2 weeks ago, and they said i cuddnt get platinum too, maybe something has changed recently and they are now taking orders. try your luck again mate, you may get it :D

you have no idea how happy i am atm, this may sound a bit "geeky" but i jumped out of my chair and did a little victory dance when he put the order through :D, after being on 2mb before, and then having to be on 1mb when i moved, it was hell downloading those large files :D

allthough i am holding my breath untill the AOl platinum thing comes up instead of gold, and untill i get the regrade email from aol.

Could you explain please? :p

Crappy sync rates, crappy throughput, majority of (sensible) ISPs are swapping them out, even if it's for a lobotomised router that uses ethernet.
Then again, the Netgear isn't much better - it seems that it has an issue with the SNR margin drifting (which is more or less what you described). Would've hoped BetaGear would've fixed it by now though, but anything's possible

Dear AOL Member

We are delighted that you have decided to take part in our 'up to 8Mbps' trial.

The trial aims to deliver the optimum stable speed up to a maximum of 8Mbps available via AOL on your telephone line. This is a part of our on-going commitment to provide the best value to our members and to constantly improve the quality of our Broadband packages.

You can now sit back and relax while we take care of everything that is needed to upgrade your telephone line to support the up to 8Mbps product. This should take approximately 24 hours and we will email you once your service has been upgraded. In the meantime, you can continue using your normal AOL Broadband service.

Your AOL Broadband Membership
Your AOL Broadband membership will continue as before and you are not required to enter into a new minimum term contract. Your monthly subscription will not be affected by your participation in this trial and you will continue to be charged your standard monthly fee on your normal billing date.

The AOL Broadband service will continue to be provided to you without interruption so there is no right to cancel your trial agreement during any cooling-off period, however this does not affect your ability to opt out of this trial at any time. If you do so, we will not refund any pre-paid subscription fees. If you do so, you will revert to your previous AOL Broadband package for the remainder of any minimum commitment period you might still be under.

How will the trial work?
Once your AOL Broadband service has been upgraded, we will try to establish what is the highest stable speed up to a maximum of 8Mbps you can get from AOL on your telephone line. This will be done over a ten-day period starting from the day you on which are notified that your AOL Broadband service has been upgraded. During this period, your speed might fluctuate and you might also experience some interruptions to your AOL Broadband connection. Please don't worry if this happens, as it is simply an indication that the network is attempting to establish your optimum stable speed.

BTW at the moment i am currently using the BT voyager 100 modem which is usb, and if my line is upgraded like it said within 24 hours, will i not be able to use broadband till the new one comes?

Probably less so with the DG834.

As for replacement, dunno. I've got a Cisco 877 with Advanced IP, but that's probably out of your budget range :p

I'll test both and let you no how it goes ;) D3fine I'm glad it worked out of you =D Lots of ppl in are position that are refused upgrades
One thing...What did you guys think of my line stats? the dsl zone guessimator says 2.5-3.5Mb and one from adsl guide say about 2.8Mb

I just tried on 'live help' and was told to ring AOL customer services (based in India) which I am not going to do as I have been there before

I wasn't as lucky as you obviously :(
