Hey all, just wondered if it would be safe to transport a 55k-60kg Treadmill in the boot of my 10 plate Focus? I don't mind hiring a van out but I wondered if I am likely to do any damage to the car? It's just a standard 10 plate Zetec, thanks!

55-60kg will be fine.

Got to remember a full car puts and extra 250kg~ in the car depending on the size of the persons involved.

Yes, but that 250kg is a spread out load between the wheels rather than a heavy one in one spot.

But 60kg will be easily fine, im sure a weeks shopping for some people comes to more than that!

3 people in the back will be loading the rear suspension near enough the same as something in the boot. Conservation average of 70kg a person is 210kg total.

Lol I've had my entire boot floor of my focus lined with slabs of beer/cider, then the boot filled on top of the those, then 3 passengers, then a full roof box, and I managed fine, that was even with Eibach lowering springs on, going to be harder next year as I've increased the size of my wheels, going to have to rethink my situation.

I've carried car engines in the back of hatchbacks on several occasions. A treadmill hardly has the weight concentrated all in one spot, they are huge things.

I had the seats down in my Astra once and filled it with rubble and earth. It didn't like it, but it didn't do it any real harm. 55-60KG is nothing to worry about. I've also had 200KG of gravel in the back of my CTR before and again that was fine.

just watch that your suspension doesn't look like its about to bottom out an egale eyed policeman will love to pull you over and issue ticket and fine. if you look at the vin plate it tells you the vehicle gross and max weight the difference is what you can carry

Brought home 400kg of floor tiles in ours last week, just put some more air in the rear tyres ;)

That and dont get caught by the rozzers/Vosa because you will be prosecuted under construction and use.

So only load it up with the maximum it says in the handbook, because if you have an accident you WILL get hammered.

Every meter away from the axle doubles the weight on the axle, so sticking stupid heavy weights in the boot is a spectacularly stupid thing to do.
