Well from memory, it is set in bios to shut down at 120 degrees.

Plenty of people running over volted ones at 80 - 90 degrees. A few ought there are running at over 90 degrees but things getting pretty hot by then IMO and I wouldn't be happy with those temps day after day.

WHat temps you getting btw?
 
A bit high unless overclocking. You got a lot inside your case or poor ventilation?

Perhaps the cooler needs re-seating with some AS5.
 
My x1950 pro claims to be at 60 idle in catalyst control suite, but then claims to get past 100 in games. Feels cold to the touch, and the air out of the fan is not much warmer than the ambient. Speedfan records it as 44 in load.
 
My mates 1950XTX idles at around 50-55 and under load shoots to about 80. My 1950pro is idling at the moment at 50 and goes up to about 70 under load.

Thinking of getting the accelero cooler for it to tide me over till the new cards come out.

Anything under 80 during normal working conditions shouldnt be a problem though.
