Maximum temp and voltage ?

Hang on, I think I've cracked it (With a little help ;))

Bear with me...
Upping the FSB also upped the memory frequency until it was running at something bonkers. So if I up the FSB and at the same time, take the memory frequency off AUTO and try to keep it as close to 667mhz as possible, then things kinda look ok.

I'm at 300fsb now with my memory at 600mhz and timings at 5,5,5,14

Come on, am I doing it right now ??
Somebody ??
:)

yup now you;re getting the idea :D

Here's where I'm currently at.
I've gone past my theoretical "I'll be happy with 2.5ghz" plan.
Now its all about how much further I can go :) (Or my memory will let me go)

what memory are u using if its the ballistics 5300 it should be able to take 450 fsb at 4 4 4 12 timings whitch would give u 3.6 GHz

Its Corsair 5300.

Currently running at 750mhz (got my fsb at 375) and got my timings at 5.5.5.15

Stresst test just failed on 21 minutes though so I've just stuck another 0.1v in and I'll give it another try :D

Apparently 2960mhz is the limit of my memory.
I just couldn't get 3ghz stable :(
Oh well.... not too shabby considering my last great triumph was getting an AMD processor an extra 200mhz :p

I really love my Silent Knight cooler too.
Looks great and keeps things pretty cool !!

Yep, did that !!
I guess I could have used even more volts and slackened the timings even more but almost 3ghz is good enough for me considering it started life as a 1.6ghz :)

What voltages are you using for the CPU?
Ive got mine at 1.325....doesn't seem to like 370fsb tho - im running stable at 362 atm.

Also double check your temps using coretemp (you have to disable driver inforcement in 64bit vista) or everest, as speedfan shows temps 15oC lower!

I heard that speedfan shows 15 degrees lower in some cases but I didn't think it was on Vista64, I thought it was something else.
(that's why I can't remember it as I didn't think it affected me :))

Do you have a link to anywhere showing this 15 degree peoblem ?

Also I am at stock volts on the CPU so I think that's 1.325 like you ?

As coretemp refuses to work and I have no idea where to look on Everest for the CPU temp, I have conducted a little experiment :)

Here's my readings using Speedfan

I can't believe my CPU (although Overclocked) is running at about 45 degrees per core when doing nothing. (Especially with that monster of a heatsink)

Oh yeah, just remembered, I've set my BIOS to shut down when my CPU gets to 60 degrees and I deffinately saw all those temps reach 53 earlier, so that would make it 68 degrees yet it didn't shut down ;)

I don't know about everyone elses speedfan but mine seems to be ok :D
Heheh

Ahhhh found it !!!

Seems to be saying pretty much the same as Speedfan !!!

No need to panic about a melting CPU then :D

Aaah nice. Yeah ive got vista 64 - getting things to work can be such a pain.

You can make coretemp work by pressing F8 when vista starts - and disabling signed driver enforement or whatever its called.

Seems like im just going to have to invest in monster heatsink!

I hear the Scythe Ninja is amazing, but I think the Silent Knight just looks cooler and still performs to within a few degrees of it :)
