I've connected my power to my motherboard + Main CPU fan.. turn the power on.. turn the PC on.. and nothing.. power to the mobo but nothing to the fan..

I'm not sure what the problem is here.. I have an OCZ Modular Mod XStream PSU..

The LCD Poster comes up with "CPU INIT" and Im now REALLY annoyed as Ive just spent £1.4k on this >_<

Any ideas?

Whats the rest of the spec.
Tried resetting the CMOS, also have you installed the 4 or 8 pin power for the cpu and power to the graphics card (depends on card)

Rob

No GFX card yet lol.. I forgot that when ordering but if it booted up at least that'd be a result..

Nope I havent tried resetting the CMOS, and I have installed the 4 pin power for cpu

Rest of spec:

2.4Ghz Q6600
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme Heatsink
2GB Crucial Ballistix RAM
OCZ 900w Mod XStream CPU
ASUS Maximus Formula Motherboard

Yeah, I just switched it on and got a flash of blue light (assuming its my PSU) and then the blue turned off.. and still no fan..

My PSU 24 pin connector consists of a 20 pin + 4 pin combined (I think its called variable or something) .. Im not sure what's wrong..

Do you have a graphics card installed at this time!
Dr. sarf is refering to the Power connector by the CPU, looks like from the pictures you only need to install one 12v 4pin connector as the other one has a black cap covering it as well as the ATX 24 pin supply.

Blue flash of light assuming thats an LED and not an electrical spark

assuming you have the same PSU as me, i'd advise you connect both 4pin connectors (the ones in the top left hand corner of the board) if you have a quad, both 4pin connectors are required iirc

No GFX installed at this time..

Yes there's 1 covered by a cap.. Ive tried 1 and both and only get the Blue LED's when I have both in.. When I have 1 in, either side.. I dont get any LED's.. mobo powers on, no fan.. nothing

Yes I do have a quad, and ok.. Ive installed both 4 pins again.. Still the same..

LCD poster still says "CPU INIT"

Lol my knuckles are now cut from the Thermalright Ultra's razer type fins :(

When is your graphics card due, it might be a case of waiting until that arrives and then check, the boot screen might show more options or messages which might help.
It could be detecting that there is no GPU present.

Sorry I can't be of any further help.

Rob

The thing is though.. NO Fans are running.. nothing.. And Im not sure I want to spend £140+ on gfx card if the mobo fans dont even work lol :(

Check you have the right amount of standoffs under the board, and more importantly that they're all in the right place.

A rogue standoff in the wrong place could well be shorting the m/board it's easily done.

Blimey that was a quick mainboard out job lol, have you tried shorting the power pins on the mainboard with a screwdriver to see that you haven't got a dodgy on/off switch?, In fact take all your front panel wires off the mainboard and give that a go. Might also be worth disconnecting everything else just to check it isn't something else thats causing the problem. ie just leave m/board, cpu, memory and psu connected.

1. Remove the power cable.
2. Take out the mobo battery.
3. Short the clear CMOS header.
4. With the CMOS header shorted, hold the power button down for 5 seconds.
5. Replace clear CMOS header.
6. Replace battery.
7. Remove RAM.
8. Put 1 RAM Module only in the last slot (furthest from CPU).
9. See if it POSTs.

Try that and let me know how you get on.

Well even when it does work you're going to have to buy a graphics card anyway so why not just get it now? Seems a bit pointless trying to diagnose problems when you don't even have a system that's capable of POSTing due to no graphics card.

That's a valid point yeah.. I will get one soon, just I suppose because its my first build.. Im just anxious to get it up and running lol. You know what it's like.. :P

Understandable :) Do you have a graphics card you can rip out of another machine temporarily? Even just a crappy PCI thing laying around would do the job.

Try this^
It should work without the GPU - never tried it on this board though, at most it'll prob throw a GPU not detected error, but your fans should be powered up.
Had a few teething problems with these boards but the above process has resolved the issue every time, unless you have a duff board of course.
