Buying Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 250GB 6V250F0 SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-088-MD) and Asus A8N-SLi SE nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-101-AS) but heard there are some compatibility errors ? :( Could you recommend a better HD if that's the case?

Im sure more knowledgable people can give you more info but... I have a Asus A8N SLI Deluxe and had the same drive fail. I have since put in the new WD Raptor 150gb with no problems and fantastic speed. However if thats out of your price range. I also have a Samsung in with no probs. Sadly I will never risk a Maxtor drive again. Just my own opinion.

Frequently heard about people having trouble with Maxtors but not with Samsungs. Forget about NCQ unless it's in a server environment. For single user situations it should be disabled otherwise it's often slower.

I've had no problems with my DMax 10 200GB in my NF4 ultra board. Nor have I had any problems with my WD 250GB drive (16MB version). Maxtors do have a bit of a reputation but don't let it put you off, lots of people do buy Maxtors and work perfectly fine.

Personally, I steer clear of maxtors. I'm sure they are good drives now, but I just can't trust their compatibility/reliability.

The Hitachi T7K250 is a very good drive - very fast and solidly built - probably the best alternative to a maxtor DM10 (as they are quick drives and I assume this is the reason you chose it). Seagates are the most reliable drives and come with a 5 year warranty as standard. The 7200.9 series comes out soon in full force to replace the 7200.8 series. WD's are all-rounders, esp their 250GB 16MB cache drive (despite no NCQ).
