What do you think of the MAXTOR 147GB SCSI 15K PH14710K and at €399 they are quite cheap.

And also maxtor have been acquired by seagate so they cannot be bad

It's certainly a good price for a 150Gb 15krpm but it's a Maxtor... They don't have the greatest reputation for their SATA drives but I can't comment on their SCSI products. I'm also not sure of how fast it'll be, there's not much info around about Maxtor drives since the Seagate takeover.

i know i have been looking at a few scsi 15k's and the seagate cheetah 146gb 15k is 800 euro

Ouch that's expensive. The exchage rate is for argument's sake 1.5 Euros to the pound which puts that Seagate at £530 odd. I've seen them on sale in the UK for around £400.

Remember its not just the drive your have to get a controller card which will cost you round about £150 new.

Think about it though, do you really need one or are you getting one becuase it is a 15k RPM drive?

If you are thinking about getting one that is.

I've been picking up the 72Gb versions of the Seagate Cheetah (15k4) new from the states for about £75+costs (about £12 delivery and £10 'tax') - seems like a steal to me and the 15k4's aren't too bad even if they are 'last' gen.

Edit (Just got one for £67 inc - new - got to be good value! :D )
