My boss has the above drive and one of the 500gb disks failed and we could not see any data, however he had his wedding pictures and vid's on there so asked me to open the unit up (killing the warranty), get the faulty disk out, backup the pictures and video's and put a new drive in.

I did this and all seems well but I'm getting a green and orange light flashing on the front now, when it should be a constant green?

I can't tell if the RAID1 has mirrored and rebuilt itself?

All I can see if a 500gb disk? Anyway of confirming that it has worked?

Are you sure the box was originally setup as a RAID1 pair? If one drive failed you would still have been able to access the data from the other half of the mirror whereas what you describe (nothing being accessible) suggests that it was a RAID0 array which is a whole different kettle of fish.

I'd just send it to data recover company. If the HD is dead, and/or RAID..

You missed the point there I have already opened the NAS, backed up the data and replaced it with an identical drive :)

I just can't confirm whether the RAID1 is now intact again, and also the (i) light on the front keeps flash orange as if there is an issue?

I have taken both drives out now and formatted them both, within the web interface I have tried spanning over both 500gb drives and it just times out after 15 minutes so if this does work now I'm going to suggest he bin the cage and buy a new one to house the drives...

Thanks guys
