Maxtor 6L250R0 problems playing video files

I have a strange problem with my Maxtor 6L250R0 250GB ATA drive, if I try to play any video files from the hard disk during playback the video will freeze for a second or two this happens at regularly throughout the playback. If i copy the video file to another drive the playback is perfect.

Setup:
AMD 3500+
2GB Crucial Balistix
Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe
Sound Blaster Audigy 4
ATI X1900XTX
Windows XP SP2

Disk 0: Maxtor 6L250RO, Partitioned C: 100GB System , D: 133 GB Storage, Z: 2GB Page Drive

Disk 1: Maxtor 4K040H2 H: 40GB Partition

Disk 2: E: 2x 80GB Maxtor SATA Drives on RAID 0

Plus 2x Optical drives

Playing video files from either the 40GB or RAID Array results in no problems, I don’t know if this is related but playing some games from the C drive I also experience intermittent pauses like the game is struggling to load, can anyone shed any light on this?

First thing I'd try would be to move the page file off disk0, even with 2Gb of RAM windows will use the page file so it's possible that the playback is being interrupted by the disk having to go to the page file.

right i'll give that a go.

Set up a 4GB page file on the RAID Array, will do some tests

I very much doubt it's that, you won't get stuttering whilst in windows, during video playback. However

Do you get the same as me, i have a maxtor 200gb diamond max 10 8mb catch drive. [6L200P0]

When i watch somit like a tv episode i got or film during the film i sometimes get pauses for few seconds and hdd makes a strange noise like its seeking for the next bit of the video or somit.

It didnt happen when i was just on the older maxtor 30gb drive when thats all i had.

seems like the same problem i'm having but i cant hear any audible change in the drive head noise
