Maxtor DM9 250gb sata issues

Is there a commen fault with these maxtor dm9's, I know of one that doesnt show up on the motherboard sata ports. I dont know a lot about which board its on but it just dont appear anymore. Could this be a controller board fault on the drive or is it just user error with setting it up?

I had a 160GB DM9 that did that - it just died. It almost has to be a controller fault. Many here seem to think this is normal for Maxtor.

Is this a new drive that you're trying to setup or an existing one which has just stopped working?

I have had nearly 10 Maxtors - all generations and would not use them again!
A customer of mine wanted maxtor and tried to tell him otherwise but let him buy it anyway and 3 weeks later he wants another drive!
