Maxtor Drive

hey i think i have a faulty Maxtor HDD

i have recived a pc from a friend, windows instalaton is broke i have tryed to repair the install but i get a bsod when it installes the devices in xp setup.

i am not 100% sure it is the HDD so i need some software to test

i have tryed the Maxtor software but as the hdd is an SATA drive the tools i require do not work with SATA drives.

is far as i can tell i dont think im missing anything with the software.

what i need is some software that can be booted of a cd or floppy to test the hdd.

i have put the hdd in my pc and tryed scandisk and defrag but no luck.

i am going to try one of my spare ide drives in the pc to try and confirm its the drive.

The maxtor tools will work with SATA drives it may just be that the SATA port it's connected to is setup in RAID mode and hence the tools don't recognise the drive.

It'll be in the BIOS, probably in the Integrated Peripherals section.

yeah maxtor tools works as i have checked a few maxtor sata drives with it!

well tried that still did not detect the hdd

i tried one of my spare HDDs and the pc still did not work so i think its the mobo
