Hi guys,

I got hold of 2 500gb External drives dirt cheap, and i'm considering opening the box and using them as internal drives.

Does anyone know if they tend to be SATA or IDE drives inside? Anyway to tell?

One is a "One Touch" 4 and the other a "Maxtor Basics".

My guess is they'll be SATA inside as I think SATA is actually cheaper now

Maybe check out some detailed reviews, or even some details product sheets?

I don't think there is any way of finding out what sort of drive is inside without opening it up.
However they're both current models so they're probably SATA.

I opened up my One Touch III, but I can't remember what was inside. My OT3 was a pig to open and resulted in me damaging some of the retaining clips (I didn't care because it's out of sight and the HD inside is more important than it's looks)
