ok i have a maxtor 300gb HD and i have heard that maxtor are the hottest running HDs is this true and what would you recomend i get to reduce the heat?
Some people have reported Maxtors running warm (relative to others) but many cases let you put a fan at the front of the case (usually infront of the hard drives), so you could add a fan there to help pull air over your drives. Also if you are running more than one hard drive then try to space the drives out with gaps between the drives.
ah right ok cheers i am also going to put 2 fans at the back of the case and one at the top will this help? and i have also seen these hard drive fans are the effective? and do these take up drive bay room?
Fans at the back always help (as long as they extract air out the case and not pull it in), but a fan at the front would be the most effective. Usually the case fan at the front sits between the case and the hard drive. I think you might be thinking of: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Akasa.html (3rd and 4th items down). Not doubt they'd help cool the drives, but by how much I'm not sure. For them to be effective, you'd need as much space above each drive as possible (to ensure the air doesn't hit the drive above and push the air straight back down).
