ok folks here goes. had to reinstall XP. to get XP to recognise my SATA drives i press F6 and install the Silcon Image 3116 driver. It's a gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI with the latest F11 bios.
when XP is ready to install it brings up a list of drives that it can install on. my problem is that XP says that these drives are now unknown devices. the 4 x 300GB were used on my previous installation of XP and have been formatted NTFS, yet there are no recognisable partitions on any of the drives. I have stuck a Western Digital 320GB IDE drive in to get me up and running again but i would like to access the data again on the SATA drives. I also tried using the Nvidia SATA drivers but the same problem crops up during windows installation.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be. i have thought about corrupt SATA drivers so i downloaded a fresh set from the gigabyte site but still no joy.
TIA
big sinky
