I notice that when trying to return a drive to Maxtor that they are now part of Seagate and do not have direct warranty support anymore. You used to be able to return drives directly too them, infact that would mail out a replacement drive before you had to return the defective one, now however they seem to have ceased to support anything but retail boxed drives, and warranty is handled by the supplier. If you needed another reason to avoid Maxtor/Seagate drives this is yet another reason.

Im having lots of fun with maxtor myself lol, both companies (seagate and maxtor) are trying to diddle me out of 2years of warranty, I have had 6 people deal with this issue so far and every one of them has told me a different story

I have managed to get an rma going because one of the managers did an over-ride on their system. I then posted the drive to seagate in coventry. The maxtor advance rma was a beauty because you never had to wait too long for a new drive and you always got a suitable box to send the defective drive back.
I do know seagate are in the process of bringing this advance rma back so keep your eyes peeled for info, oh and hopefully seagate will use up whatever maxtor hardware is left and phase them out for good.

My new maxtor is corrupt  I gave them the serial number and it came up on there warranty until 2009. Mine's OEM. So I sent it off. What's the problem?

i tried to check warrenty info on my new 320gb 7200.10s and it sayas unknown!!!! they were sold with a five year manufacturers warrenty

Did you use an S instead of a 5 at the beginning of the serial number, or perhaps an O instead of an 0 in the in the middle. Just checked a couple of my 7200.10's and they came up with warranty until 2011 :)
