Do i need vista to run far cry 2 in DX10 mode? same with bioshock?

I have 4 gigs of ram and a pentium dual core e2200 processor so if i needed vista would that be sufficent? not sorted out replacement card will do by next month.

You need vista allright.

I think you may struggle with that spec at anything over a low resolution

Yes no problem, but your CPU may bottleneck the 4870x2 imo.

edit: Cant you run DX10 on XP now btw, I thought you could ? so long since I've used it lol.

No i was refering to the guy telling me with my spec anything over a low res and i will struggle and i made the next question that will i struggle with an ati radeon 4870x2

I will be looking to overclock the cpu from stock to 3.4ish

Ahh right then so better rethink will an ati radeon 4850x2 be a better choice? i want to run games maxed out no problems with no fps issues.

I still think you'd need to think abouit upgrading your cpu, for a cheap quality upgrade look @ a Q6600 G0, you can probably pick 1 up 2nd hand for £100, that would be much more suitable to pair with a 4870x2 :)

Im not upgrading my cpu as i got it on budget so am making do for now im looking for new gpu as i sent my 8800gt back cause it was ******.

edit the swear word m8, mods will hammer you!

from reading a lot on here the 4870x2 will be overkill for your cpu as the others have stated. then again if you can afford one now and upgrade the cpu in the not too distant future then go for it :)

I may be able to get 140 to spend on a quad core in march i want a good gpu for future proof, i wont bother with DX10 mode then just stick with xp pro i though dx10 was loads better from what i read.

Not sure about Far Cry but Crysis has been run in DX10 mode using a x1950 and Win XP .
