You might empathise with the nurses, seeing the work that they do.
I think thats quite a blanket statement.
In the last 5 years or so I have visited 3 people close to me in hospital and the job the Nurse's were doing was pathetic and should have been sacked.
Ex 1, My girlfriends (at the time) father had cancer, he went in to have the operation etc and the service was a joke, 1 point sticks out, they "forgot" to give him his painkillers, morphine, 4 times through the day... some nurse comes a long and give all of it at once, he almost died.
Ex 2, a girl I was seeing 18 months ago had breast cancer, I went to visit her 4 times (she was from Zimbabewe went back after the treatment started) and 4 times I had to chase up the nurse to do the obervations that shold have been getting done every 15 mins.
Ex 3, same girl as Ex 1, she was a student nurse when I met her, she was on a placement, friday night about 7:30ish, her, the sister and a staff nurse... she was walking about just checking everything was ok as the shirft finished at 8 and would be handed over. there was a guy in who had an operation and needed 15 min obs, she gets to this guy, he is not breathing and was blue, she ran for the nurse/sister, not about, she had to call the doctor up.
The doctor arrived and the guy was sorted out, i dont know what the problem was, the doctor asked my ex, the student nurse where the sister was, she said she could not find her, then both the sister and nurse show up, both dressed ready to go out on the town, they had left the care of patients to go an get changed to go out that night.
There have been other things as well that I consider pathetic care when it comes to nurses but I could be here all day and the stories I have heard is something else.
I agree nurses, and police for that matter dont get paid enough, but some of the idiots who are currantly qualified nurses scare me.
