Ok so im moving house...YAY!!

however there is a problem.

I have been a BE* customer for about 3 years on their unlimited package and have a BT landline.

With the new move i wanted to finally ditch BT (contract has expired) and get the BE* lanline along with their BB. simple you may think, not so!

The new property has had sky BB(llu) and landline for some time. the problem here is ive been told that BE* may not be able to take over the landline directly and that the line may have to be "taken back" by BT initially. this means i will have to take another 12 (or is it 18) month contract AND potentially have to pay £125 to have the line reinstated.

landline = £11 (approx)
line activation = £10 (approx)
BE = £18 (approx)

thats £39 a month just to get upto 24meg BB!! if BE* cannot take over the existing line

This makes me think about continuing a sky bundle service to the property for potentially less per month (with quidco discounts)

im a bit annoyed about the situation and nervous about moving from BE* who have been the best BB providers i have ever had.

So basically im looking for reassurance that going to sky wouldnt be a bad thing, mainly worried about contention in the area, traffic shaping, on/off peak speed throttling, customer service.

cheers

I'm on sky unlimited LLU and have no problems with them, Ive been using Usenet pretty heavily the last week, about 270 GBs worth of downloads and haven't noticed any throttling at all and not had a complaint from them so its all good! :D

Was on Sky unlimited LLU up until ~ 15th Jan
We got it just before xmas last year

Since then it's been on 24/7 downloading, seeding, gaming and we've not once had a peep out of them.

BT said we could get 6meg.
Sky gave us iirc 11.4meg.

Only downside to sky was their pathetic router, wireless on it was pants and damn it got hot :(

I've had Sky for over 3 years, never had any slow downs or throttling & my line is rock solid. Customer service is good once you get past the script monkeys.

We use the net heavily as most seem to do on here, been with sky for nearly a year now never had any issues with them and the speeds are good. We were with Virgin before that.

On the flip side , i had horrendous issues with sky customer support for MONTHS so bad infact that i broke my contract early and moved to o2

even now sky still has my landline and if i need to contact them about any issues they fob me off with one lame excuse after another,i'd only go back to sky if i had no other choice

Awaiting delivery of my sky router to use there service, taking 4 days and lines been active since 27th, migrated from o2 legacy package, old premium, wish I didn't now as using 3G bb since then as no router i'n site. There saying another 3 to 5 days now;-(

ok thanks guys, may just take the plunge, glad to see no throttling etc. suppose its always hit n miss with cust service. I will eventually get my own router anyway.

cheers, suppose it will be nice to have sky1 again:D

i have sky and its been pretty good had a few problems early on when setting it up but pretty stable the router is fine with my gaming pc (hard wired)but we have problems with the wireless conection .sometimes get disconnects we have 4 things connected wirelessly

No problems here. Been with Sky for over a year, heavy user. Connection stable and reliable.

Not sure what they are using now but my Sky router is a re-branded Netgear. Never had an issue with it either so never bothered getting my own due the hassle of having to extract username and password from the Sky router. And it's also against their T&C's to user another router. And while I've never heard of anyone having a problem using their own router, knowing my luck...

The big question is how far is the new house from the exchange, you may get nowhere near 24meg if it's a long line.

new place is 644 meters from the new exchange (if you follow the roads) i know thats not how long the line will be but its a damn site closer than my old place which was a mile away and i got 19meg sync with BE* broadband

anybody know the average wait time to have sky installed ?

Completely depends if you're getting a new phone line installed, if you are it's about 4-5 weeks for installation; it's an absolute joke. In the north it's a 7 week wait, we got the message through today about it.

When you order it, make sure your on the Sky Network (SVBN) otherwise you have to wait till your phone line is activated before ordering Broadband, which usually takes another 2 weeks.

Standard lead time for a phone line (PSTN) is 10 working days, but current openreach shortages are making this lead time closer to 20 for most areas.

You should see a good speed return assuming new line at ~600m.

I signed up for Sky Unlimited 2 weeks ago, went live yesterday ( 3rd ) at a speed of 4meg.

Speed has just been bumped up to this ( I am about 1000 meters from the exchange ).

I've just moved form o2 llu to sky, signed up today activation fro the 22nd :)

how hard is it get the the username and password for the ADSL line..? As I would prefer to use my own router.

thanks
