I'm building a new machine, as my current AthlonXP1800+ one is somewhat old and naff. When i built that it was pretty top spec, it's been a while since i've looked into pc hardware, so if i could get any opinions on problems with what i've arrived at, that'd be swell.

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600
Asus P5B Deluxe
Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C5 Dual Channel Kit
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT-X 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI
Antec NeoHE 550W Modular ATX2.0 PSU
Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200KS SATA-II 16MB Cache x 2
Viewsonic VX922 x 2
Scythe Ninja
Antec P180 Advanced Super Midi Tower Case

many thanks!

Overclocking? Nab some of the Geil 2gb pc6400 RAM on this week only for £150 + vat.

I'd HIGHLY reccomend a seagate barracuda 7200.10 instead of the WD, runs faster and quieter.

IMO, I'd go for the HIS 1900XT, and clock it, ofc if you aren't comfortable with that stick with your choice.

Looks like a nice spec, hope you overclock it, you'll get 3.2ghz easy with some nice pc6400.

EDIT: Just checking you haven't forgotten the usuals, dvd-rw drive etc :P A soundcard might be a good idea, something like the audigy 2 would suit your budget perfectly

Goodeh has pretty much summed it up, PC6400 would be better and Geil is solid Ram plus relatively cheap at the moment. An X1900XTX isn't significantly better than an X1900XT plus you can usually overclock the X1900XT to XTX speeds or above without it breaking a sweat.

A Seagate 7200.10 is a fantastic drive, not much slower than a Raptor but with much more space.

For PSU you might also want to consider Enermax, FSP, Tagan and Seasonic :)

Search the forums for p5b deluxe. I recall some guys having issues with this board. Might be an idea to get this one Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi, unless that the one u meant. Also agree with seagate 7200.10 and Geil 6400.

Thanks chaps!

OK so, in my usual genius style, I actually ordered some of the bits a few minutes before I made the original post. The only bit I ordered that got commented on was the hard drives though, are the Seagate models you mention that much better than the WD ones that it's worth me cancelling/modifying the order?

Am definitely going to look into the RAM issue some more, thanks.

OK, i shall trawl the forum (some more, have already done this somewhat, and of course been to the usual suspects (toms, anand, [h] etc)) and research the mobo a bit more, thanks for the heads up.

As for the sound card, I was thinking of just doing a straight transplant of my old Creative Live! 5.1 card. I know it's like 5 years old, but sound is sound right, and as I'm only going to be playing it through the same set of 5 year old Creative 5.1 speakers, is there any need for a new sound card?

The Seagates are better but if you have already ordered I wouldn't give it a second thought, the WD drives are still good performers and reliable.

As for the sound card, onboard sound is pretty good nowadays, on a par with the SB Live range and probably even Audigy 1 sort of standard so you may be as well to try onboard or alternatively there is no harm in transplanting the old soundcard.
