Granted you have very few options with the MPS and like you say its not as commonplace as tuning a VW, Vauxhall or Ford but thats becuase they've hardly sold any MPS's, but i'm sure you could import something if needs be.

But unlike that other poster said it can be done, and its plug and play, i'd say thats almost as simple as it gets.

Negative, you would be down 4bhp by slapping a K&N on.

However peak HP never gives the full story of what the remap has done, its a number to wave your wang about to and shout about down the pub....

Or not as the case may be with 105bhp.

I knew that there are options available, but they aren't as simple as them sending you a little device, you plug it in to map the car, and then remove it in the event of a service or warranty work. Nor is it as cheap.

But then I'd expect to pay £420 for a 320BHP car, but not one with 250bhp.

Besides, 300BHP is useless in a FWD car anyway, right? :P

Quick read shows that the ECU is pretty much locked down by Mazda, and tuners are finding it hard to remap it.

Never thought about one of these before though, I like them

2. Its REALLY long, and I wanted something a little more compact.

Really? It's the same shape as the Sport, same bumpers and everything, and that's not a big car. It's only big compared to Fiestas and Golfs and stuff. In fact is it even much bigger than a Golf?

Bumper does stick out about 8 inches though I always feel like I'm going to bash it into stuff, but I parallel park like a total retard. Like really bad.

Bad move by Mazda then.

If tuning was readily available i'm sure they would have sold more.

I would imagine so, seems it is bypassable but not very easy. I would assume this is why the remap is so expensive comparred to other marques.

Would you really want that much more power on a hot hatch though?

Am I the only person thats actually owned one on here? So many inaccuracies!

I owned one for 18 months or so with the Aero Kit fitted - my experiences of it were largely positive. I never once in my time of ownership felt that 256bhp through the front wheels was too much.

Pros -

Very quick for an untuned hot hatch. Never failed to get boring feeling that turbo kick in.
Decent handling, never found this to be an issue.
Wolf in sheeps clothing. Discreet, no boy racers trying to egg you on and people in STs/Type Rs trying to prove something
Reasonably economical fuel wise. Around 300 miles to a tank, working out about 30mpg or so on mixed journeys
Lots of kit, comfortable seats, great stereo. Reasonable quality of interior.

Cons

That tax band. Yes, its only £200 or so more than the Focus, but it really does sting handing over £400 to the Post Office to tax your vehicle. It just feels downright wrong for to by paying so much for a hot hatch.
Again, the discreet looks. It does look a little ordinary.
Uncommon tyre sizes were a pain, meant the tyres were quite expensive.
Very hard ride.
Heres a big one - its next to impossible to sell. I had to sell mine privately for around the trade price to get it shifted.

Any other questions feel free to ask.

Blacked out rear lights work well with the car's rear. Nice increase btw.

Just overall a very nice car indeed

I think these deserve loads of respect, just like the 6 MPS, I always give drivers of latter an acknowledging nod when one pulls up next to me at traffic lights.

Me too. I touch the front of my flat cap and give a 'knowing' puff on my pipe.

I wonder if the JDM version can be found with the 'wrong' tax band assigned to it by DVLA?
