Does anyone own one or have driven one of these?

They have 4wd, 260bhp and from what Im told the setup isnt as hardcore as an Impreza or a 3 series M (for me a plus in an everyday car). I have seen decent examples for sale for £6/7k.

I used to own a 323 Zxi (v6) which was a great car and bullet proof. Are the quality issues specific to the RX8 engine or have Mazda suffered in the last decade or so?

It seems like a decent second hack if you are prepared to sacrifice a few mpg for a bit of performance and the only real gripe is that there is no estate version as this would have been a real sleeper.

It doesn't really compare to the Impreza et al because it isn't fast enough to compare. It's got a good turn of pace, and I'd probably consider getting one if they shoehorned a slightly larger FI engine in there pushing something over 300bhp - if they did that they'd be competing in big-boy land instead of just fairly quick ;)

My friend had one and absolutely loved it. It seemed pretty reliable and in my opinion, it's more up market than the Impreza while still being very fast.

It's comparable to a WRX, they are great cars, they aren't rotary engines (I think! >_<) so no problems there.

I was under the impression they are 2.3l 4pot turbo charged engines. I did look into the tuning of them once and found that there isn't much of a 'scene' in the UK as they are quite rare and the type of people who buy them don't want to really get into that.

Hence remaps etc.... were quite hard to get.

Magazine tests compared them to the Impreza STi I believe. I think they look good, go well and are meant to be easy to live with, but kinda thirsty. But let's be honest, what decent power petrol car isn't a bit thirsty?

My cousin had one, they're overly thirsty. He only kept it for the best part of a year, but he loved it.

I did look at that, 290bhp from a chip - not too shabby!

I can see why it isnt in the same bracket as the scooby but on paper it doesnt seem far off. The insurance quotes I ran saw the mazda costing less than half that of the scooby (£300 v £680).

Looked into these many times but never taken the plunge and bought one yet.

They are fast, but the steering isn't great - the two I've driven both needed a lot of minor inputs and corrections to put the front exactly where you want it on the way into corners.

They are thirsty, and there are unhealthy numbers of reports of major engine failures for a car that's not all that common.

for anybody that actually wants a 4 / 5 door car its worth noting that the MPS is available in 4 door saloon only form, and the seats don't fold flat. There's a bulkhead there used for structural rigidity.

I think that they are FWD mainly, but become 4WD when required. Thats what i was told when on a test drive of one from a main dealer any way.

This was the main reason I went for the ST220 instead which I think is the obvious alternative to the Mazda6 MPS.
