Mazda 6 Rust

Neither are the same model OP has, perhaps there have been issues with the paint on the newer cars.

Wouldn't surprise me, paint on most new cars is shocking.

Also if you never washed them yourself and only had the service bay minions rub them with a dirty sponge once a year I'd be surprised if you'd even notice the sort of paintwork defects being discussed. :p
 
ACME might be right, modern paints not great.

Test drove a 19 plate 6 estate today. Loads of mm sized stonechips on the bonnet through the machine grey metallic paint down to a primer grey layer. More chips than i have on my 6 with 10 times the miles on the clock.

Perhaps the new paint is pretty brittle. My metallic yellow 52 plate 6 sounds orrible but the paint was really nice, still good at 170k miles, metallic light blue 10 plate more boring but still looks good (yes i do look at the roof i spend a lot of time strapping stuff to the rack).
