Gents, i have a 55 plate Mazda 6 2.3 Sport. It goes OK but I want a bit more from it. It is the same base engine as the MPS uses, and that goes to 256Bhp with a few uprated parts.

What can i do to my engine, that:

A) is not expensive
B) will give is a bit more poke
C) does not trash the fuel economy, more that it already is.

Cheers for your input.

Regards

Dusty

Tuning NA engines for any significant power increase will be expensive.

Your best route might be to chop it in for an MPS - these can be picked up very reasonably priced now.

As has been said the base engine might be the same but you are lacking the key ingredient for good power gains through modding....the turbo! You could no doubt get a bit through exhaust and filter changes but, again, for 10 horses at best it will be pricey!

I hope you didnt buy it thinking it was a cheaper way of getting MPS power :(

As said above it is lacking the turbo! Save your cash or put some money towards buying a MPS...

There is nothing you can do without spending ridiculous amounts of money to make it noticeably faster.

If you want it to sound 'nice' then an induction kid and exhaust will make everyone look at you and facepalm.

A far cheaper way to get more power would be to buy an MPS.

theres very little tuning in this country even for the MPS.

you might find an ecu remap from somebody like superchips, but thats your lot.

There a few companies tuning the RX7 / RX8 and MX5. But none that i can find for the 6.

I know the sport is not going to get anywhere near the MPS, never the intention.

The mazda happened to be a nice car available earlier this year when there were not many used cars around. It was 3.5 yrs old, and less than 30K on the clock, and is a very nice car with all the right buttons. Just wish it had a bit more than it's 166 horses pulling me along now.

Dont get us wrong, its a good car. Its just not tunable. :)

Agree as above.. and with the car being quite rare, tuning will be expensive if it exists.

Best bet is to try some of the owners forums

The Mazda6 2.3 is a great car with a crap engine, it drinks like a fish and is slow.

Dare I say it the diesel might have been a better bet

Shame only the Yanks got the V6 version.

/removes Mazda6 from 'cars worth bothering with' list

Not sure how you can say that when they are zillions of 1.8/2.0 Duratorqs out there.....but yes, they should have offered a V6.
