Time has come to replace our Honda Accord, so we are looking for something slightly smaller or the same size for 11k 2 years old, i really like the new Civic but its just out of our price range

Excellent cars. The new MPS model looks superb. :p

I have a new mazda 3 sport its nice if you like hatchbacks im very impressed with the quality of it although it has more headroom than the 6 if your tall, I did test drive the 6 and now the MPS version is out its getting very tasty.

Just remember it's largely a ford mondeo so if you think you'll get a better spec and more equipment buying a used mondeo becuase there are a load more to choose from I'd go for one of those instead.

My Dad's 6'6 and he fits in ours fine...
I'm 6' and have loads of room...

I think it's really nice car. We have the 2l TD sport in red. Seems to be the most uncommon colour.

It's a good quality inside and out and I think it's one of the best looking saloons out there.

The stereo is really nice on the sport. 6CD in dash Bose jobbie :) Also increases the volume to compensate for road noise which I thought was pretty cool.

Which model are you thinking of? My Dad had a 138PS Diesel Sport a couple of years ago - nice car but not a great diesel and it wasn't very economical.

As a petrol they're a great buy.

i have the bose in my mazda 3 sport its actually quite good, in dash 6 cd changer is nifty

I used an Mazda6 for a week in Italy last year (hire car), was a diesel estate.
My thoughts were:
- Felt pretty perky for a diesel
- Quite snazzy looking interior with plenty of silver bits, just not amazingly well made. Seemed to be on par with the Mondeo mk3 I'd been in, just different and more "fun" in it's feel.
- Good handling for a large saloon, despite having 4 people in it.
Overall, I was pretty impressed and would happily buy one if I wanted a saloon that tries to make you smile a little.

If I was buying a mid-sized saloon, the Mazda 6 would be the one.

Don't think you can go wrong.

The MazdaSpeed (MPS) is amazing - very nearly bought it instead of the RAV but there's no room for snow chains in the wheel arches so it was a non-starter.

Yea, they are nice cars, well priced, well specced, decent engines, nice to drive, they feel more involving and alive than most cars of their class. They also look stylish (imho), sleek yet still classy and they will be reliable as hell :)

The Mazda6's over there are a bit different. I noticed Mazda6's EVERYWHERE in the States - they all had really attractive bodykits and 2.5 or 3.0 V6 engines. Really nice.

Unfortunately with the exception of the brand new £24k MPS, the Mazda6's over here have a rather limp power offering in comparison and no really sporty looking options.

I'd take the very similar (there are numerous shared components including, IIRC, the engine) Mondeo in Zetec-S or ST TDCi trim instead.

One interesting point, check this link:

Whilst the 6 and Mondeo might share some parts, the 6 is 11th in the JD Power awards, the Mondeo is 53rd. So clearly there are some differences.

Perception, probably. Thats why all these surveys are a tad useless and why a Skoda will always come out miles ahead of a VW even though both are fundamentally the same, with the VW better if anything.

but...

ford - perception average - quality average = poor rating

mazda - perception average - quality average = good rating...

its not like people will be underpresuming mazda in the same way they might a brand such as skoda though...

Typical big Mazdas of before have been... underwhelming, shall we say. Anyone remember the 626? No, thought not.

Whereas the Mazda6 is really rather good. Quite a suprise, in that respect.
