As someone that actually knows about sound reproduction, I can tell you that Bose isn't 'much' better than Sony on the whole, it's over rated and over priced. The best, indeed only 'really' good in-car sound system I have ever heard was the Linn system fitted to the Lexus LS400, but that is also largely due to how quiet the car is compared to most.

Bose are re-known for making pretty average quality, hugely over priced, and even more hugely over rated lifestyle kit in the Hi-Fi community, not the uber-quality sound systems people seem to be under the illusion they make. But yea a Bose system is better than the average car stereo.

Totally agree, Bose stuff is so overated, they used to make good gear but now they just make middle of the road sounding tat and sell it for an expensive price, it will sound better than your normal factory fit gear but if you spent the same amount as the bose upgrade cost on aftermarket kit you would get a much better system.

Ask any true home audio buff about bose gear and they will tell you, most people just go off the name since it used to stand for high quality, not anymore.
 
i didnt say the bose stuff was amazing, if I could be bothered I could fit a much better system, but it is a lot better than the proprietry ford/vauxhall tat and the clarion rubbish im used to in my old citroen c3, it is better than standard stuff but you could do much better with a nice alpine setup and a sub, mind you saying that the bose does have an amp and small sub under the passenger seat but its not great
