As a birthday treat, and it was lovely!

Salt & pepper squid

Roasted pork belly

Fillet steak, chips and mushrooms

Brownie

We were stuffed at the end, and bizarrely, it seems like the bread, water and cookies were all free!

Squid was lovely and tender, the pork belly was amazing, and the steak was very good.

This was my fourth "high end" steak, and came comfortably in at number 2 after my first outing to Gaucho London Bridge.

1. Gaucho London Bridge
2. Maze Grill
3. Hawksmoor
4. Gaucho Richmond

It looks delicious, especially the squid. I don't think I've ever had a properly cooked steak, most places give you almost well cooked when you ask for medium rare.

We ate at maze grill during the Olympics. The service was slow (it was busy).

I had the squid too, it was delicious,

and sea bass with miso glaze, edamame, spring onions, pak choi and ****ake mushrooms which was also great.

My OH ordered fillet, rare, when it arrived it was medium at best and the outside was hard, dried out, and really hard to cut. It had obviously been cooked on too hot a grill. He didnt eat much of it as a result, and when they asked if everything was ok, we said no, not really. He took the steak back, came back and said chef had tried it and it was perfect, just as they always cook steak and that they never have any other complaints (he was extremely defensive). We didnt have time to order something else as we had our event to get to, so they said that seeing as though he had hardly eaten any, and hadn't enjoyed it, they would refund HALF of the cost (£38).

This was like a red rag to a bull for my other half who asked why he had to pay for half a steak he hadn't eaten, to which they said it was not their fault he didnt like it (they werent going to admit that it had been cooked badly) - but eventually did knock his meal off the bill.

I had a lovely meal, but was spoilt by my boyfriend's experience and the restaurant manager's attitude.

Erm, had a bit of a bad experience on GD a few months back and decided to go away for a bit. I have popped up once or twice since then but doing more lurking than posting these days :-) x

I've heard very mixed things about this place, but the food looks quite good. Would like to see that pork belly sliced.

I'm with the grande fella here, that steak is perfectly fine. If anything, over done. ;)

Oh, and happy birthday.

Nah, everyone has their own taste. :) I personally cannot abide over cooked steak.

There are a lot of dishes worldwide that serve many fish and meats raw - and if prepared well they are absolutely delicious. I will say that I don't particularly like steak tartare - I've eaten and will eat it, but it's not my preferred style of steak.

This is what makes the world a place worth living upon :) Everyone with different tastes and styles. When it comes to cooking styles I have to admit my fish isnt the same as my meat :) I honestly don't mind pink in my meat but the pic in question is just too much for me.
