Im just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to me?

I purchased a late 2008 MBP in november 08, it worked fine untill Febuary when it developed a problem where it would freeze when using the web. It then spread through to freezing using any application and then to the point where it wouldnt start up. On top of that it would loose its wireless conection for no reason every 20-30 minutes.

I got it repaired after having to drive two 4 hour round trips to my nearest store to take it and pick it up  It got a new logic board, RAM and airport card. This seemed to fix the issue.

All was well untill this week and the same issue has risen its head again. Out of the blue it started freezing using web broswers again after about 10-15 mins of use. So i phoned apple up and spent literally the entire afternoon on the phone to tech support. I ended up speaking to 4 different people over the course of a number of hours. (all 4 were excellent though, especially the 2 Irish blokes :D)

We went through every check up/repair/scan thingy they could think of even though it made no difference last time it had the exact same issue. Eventually they aksed me to do an erase and install. This did nothing but make the issue even worse and now i cant even get to the desktop.

The applecare guys all said they have never seen this issue at all before. Ive spent ages searching forums trying to find someone with the same issue to no avail.

However what really gets my back up is this: I have had this machine for about 7 months, it cost me the best part of £1500 and in that time its rendered itself literally useless twice. Yet after asking numerous times for a replacement i was turned down. Yet others seem to get new machines no questions asked for little things like slightly wonky keyboards or little scratches on the body.....what gives! Its even more infuriating because ive spent over £5.5k with them over the last 18 months, so feel like i deserve more than what im getting.
The answer i always get is "im not due a replacement for this kind of issue" or something along those lines. It just seems totally unfair.

Its now booked in for its second repair so im without it for another week+ all over again. Thankfully they agreed to send me a pre paid mail-in box this time to save me the 4 hour round trips.

Where do i stand on this? The terms and conditions simply says something along the lines of "replacements will only be given at apples discretion". I really dont want to find that another 2-3 months down the line i get this again and they are still fobbing me off.
After having such a great experience with apple and my Mac Pro, this situation has really left me felling underwhelmed by their performance.

just read first line about you buying a mac, L O L? glad its ruined your life

Im sorry but you came in to the Apple forum section just so you could laugh at someone you have never met, over issues that can happen with any PC. If you hate Macs then get out of the section, **** off you loser.

Edit - Judging by a couple of your other posts you wont last long here.

Aye that is pretty bad, personally I'd see how it goes when you get it back, if you have the slightest problem with it I'd personally refer them to your two cases and tell them you can't trust the machine to be fine again etc. and that a like for like replacement would be the only outcome that would work for yourself.

But from experience, I haven't known anyone to get a replacement machine for a wonky keyboard or a few scratches, although it's very annoying for yourself to be without your machine again.

Never mind of a replacement - I would have tried a "not fit for purpose - give me a full refund" approach the second time

As much a pain as it is. Just send it back and let it take its course. You've demo'd twice now a problem.

Personally, replacing the logic board / ram / airport was extreme and it begs the question why it wasn't a replacement to begin with?

Just see what happens, perhaps they will can it and replace with a new one?

Certainly right for sending a pre-paid parcel! 4 hour round trip!?!

Okay I apologise. I have my reasons for disliking Apple.

I'm not sure what you mean about my other posts though? If you're meaning to threaten me please at least elaborate

You will either get another repair or a replacement.

The new ones have come out now so you may be lucky. Push for it as it would probably cost more than a new one does anyway to replace it all again, something is obviously not right :)

I've had the same issue with my Mac Pro, with an annoying but survivable issue which is now kinda fixed.

Good luck!

I would speak to the tech support guys again, and get them to first speak to a supervisor and get the supervisor to speak to you. Tell him that you aren't happy with the service you have gotten and that you will be making a complaint about it.

I had a white macbook which had a logicboard problem. No matter how many times I told them what it was it took them 3 months to come to the same conclution. They replaced it because of all the messing around they gave me and because I said I was going to complain.

Just give it a go.

I had a generally poor experience with Apple support via phone/post, the support at the Genius Bar in the store however has been fantastic. If you can get to an Apple Store in the future that would be my suggestion.

Sadly as is the case with most companies, they will try and get out of replacing it for as long as possible as it's going to cost them more money than a repair would. They were fine with writing off my MacBookPro after I spilled coke in it as the cost wasn't going to be covered by them.
