MBP refresh - likely memory type?

I'm considering upgrading the menmory in my MBP 13 to 4gb or possibly even 8gb. The latter is obviously very expensive so I'd want to be sure that if/when I move to a newer MBP the memory would be compatible.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether the current memory is likely to be carried across to the refresh? I realise no-one knows for sure but what would an i5 MBP use?

All macbooks are now ddr3 i think (maybe not the macbook but the pros are) and i dont that will change for a few years...

Why do you want 8gig though? I had it back on my old pc last year and never ever needed it (4 is the perfect amount right now really, at least price wise)

For virtualisation. If I replace my main machine then I'd be running several OS's side by side.

All macs are currently DDR2.

i3/i5/i7 product refresh due very soon across the range will bring in DDR3 triple channel memory.
