He did a pretty remarkable job at FC Twente tbh. Jumped ship to a bigger club and this is what he gets...! Won a cup at Boro too.

As a club manager McClaren has been pretty successful but in England it will always be overshadowed by failing with the national team in what appears to be an impossible job anyway.

He had success with Middlesbrough in the League Cup, semis of the FA cup and took them to the UEFA Cup Final. For a club like Boro that's a pretty good record. Then his success at Twente which was remarkable - 1st and 2nd in two seasons for a club with virtually no prior success.

Obviously he's failed at Wolfsburg but he's a better manager than many in England give him credit for.

Didn't he do pretty much the same with Middlesborough as Hodgson did with Fulham? Except nobody really bummed him quite as much, though he did get the England job and look where that led them.

decent manager and a nice guy , being too nice is whats got him into trouble

hes great with youngsters but cant deal with players who think they are bigger than the team , eg the whole england squad or his apparent problems at wolfsburg.

not only did he take boro to win the league cup and get to final of Uefa cup but he also happily gave plenty of chances to all the youth players who are now at bigger teams and probably the only reason they aren't bankrupt

his twente team played some damn nice football. especially when the summer he joined they had just lost their best players and the season he won the league ajax had spent a fortune.
