Mclaren are busy

Good timelapse that. Got concrete?

Some info from the video description as well -

With the world eagerly awaiting the launch of the new 12C in 2011, McLaren is building a new production and assembly site next to its futuristic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) headquarters in Woking, England. The £40 million McLaren Production Centre is developing fast and the construction programme is ahead of schedule. Great news for future 12C owners!

The MPC will be the home of McLaren Automotive's range of high-performance and highly efficient sports cars, supporting up to 800 jobs and manufacturing around 4,000 cars by the middle of the decade. New standards of quality will be introduced into the sports car market, as well as innovative new technologies unique to McLaren.

All components on the cars are bespoke to McLaren. Construction began in January, meaning approximately one year will pass before the first 12C rolls off the new production line. Despite a remarkably tight deadline for the completion of the programme, McLaren is making every effort to ensure the development is sensitive to its local environment.

· 'Low-energy' paints have been selected for the 12C that can be cooled mainly through natural air-flow within the building
· The landscaping project is re-using all existing soil, massively reducing the transportation impact
· 820 new trees, and 68 existing mature trees that were transplanted in a local nursery before the bird-nesting season, will be planted on-site to further screen the MPC and MTC and positively contribute to the local environment
· Every vehicle that leaves the site receives a high-power wheel and chassis wash to ensure that dirt and mud is not left on the surrounding roads
· McLaren has purchased the Heather Farm facility of industrial buildings and concrete hard-standing, adjacent to the Horsell Common Special Protection Area, and has bequeathed ownership of the site to the Horsell Common Preservation Society
· All local public footpaths have been either retained or will be enhanced for future access

The construction programme is yet another reflection of the passion of everyone at McLaren for the company to be the most innovative, most successful, and most respected sports car and motorsport business in the world, both now and in the future.

I wonder how they are getting planning permission for this and their main tech centre, as its all flat green space around isn't it? I guess they have built in a lot of green environmental bits but still surprised.

They're only allowed to build something like 9ft or something above ground I read the other week.

Ah, hence most of it being underground

The proposed ‘Foster+Partners’-designed manufacturing centre complies with all key planning principles set by the existing planning consent and features a building sunk into the ground to minimise visual impact, substantial new areas of tree planting and re-contouring to effectively disguise above-ground views, and improves access to public land for recreation.

The tallest part of the building is not taller than the knoll that already exists on the land and what can be seen is going to be surrounded by trees.

It was still referred to the Secretary of State for him to decide on the planning permission as it was a green belt - even though they McLaren Technology Centre was built on the same site...

personally i would just McLaren to get on with it, paragon is one of the few buildings that must increase the value of property that can see it.

:D Ferrari might have Fiorano and Maronello but McLaren'll have Woking Underground.

McLaren are getting into trains as well as supercars??? :D

That did make me laugh out loud in the office

Im a little surprised at "Every vehicle that leaves the site receives a high-power wheel and chassis wash to ensure that dirt and mud is not left on the surrounding roads"

(just at the attention to detail down to that level)

I did like that. Though I guess they use the local roads for test drives quite a lot. So the last thing they want is a trail of mud everywhere!

+1 for underground test track :p. The sound would be glorious. So once this is up and running we are going to see many more McLaren road cars in the future.
