Mclaren are busy

McLaren are getting into trains as well as supercars??? :D

That did make me laugh out loud in the office
How did I know someone would say that?! :p

Considering McLaren have to build their new complex partially underground to keep in with the planning regulations they might as well open up an Underground station. ;)

Couldnt resist :D

Im sure it adds a huge amount to the cost/planning etc of that part of the complex but its also pretty cool to be able to do that

I would hate to be one of the workers once its finished though (would love to work for McLaren as Im sure a lot would - but would detest workingc - even partially - underground)

Probably does. But McLaren will see it as a necessity to allow them to generate more income for the McLaren group. :)

Scared of Mr James Bond are we? ;)

Im confused - I was commenting on building underground specifically

Obviously they needed to construct a seperate "site" to build the roadcars planned - keeping them seperate from the F1 (and any other McLaren business done in the Tech Centre) will only make the cars "slightly" more expensive than otherwise might be the case

probably being stupid but cant work out your 007 comment

I was saying that in order to be allowed to build the site for their road cars they have to build it partially underground. Whilst this is going to cost more than an entirely above ground building McLaren will see the costs of building underground as a necessity to allow them to make more road cars and bring more money into the group.

Underground lairs, typical James Bond baddie lairs. :)

Lol - McLaren are doing more "re-landscaping" of Horsell Common that the Martians did....

:-)

Where do they get all their money from?

Please correct me if I'm wrong but they haven't produced many road cars and surely success in motor sport can't have the 10s and 10s of millions of pounds in it that they're spanking on their new buildings? I can only assume sponsorship is their only main source of income?

its tv revenue as well as "success" payments from bernie that keep the F1 teams in business - seeing as f1 is worth billions, yes I can imagine (given the length of time McLaren have been successful for) they would easily have enough for these kinds of ......projects

They have a lot of investors in the middle east.

They have plenty of money.

In fact i have seen articles stating that Mclaren's F1 budget was higher than that of Ferrari. Which says something considering developing an engine is largest cost to a team and Mclaren would have gotten theirs free from Mercedes

This was a good few years ago now

Ferrari are the biggest budget team iirc and have been for a while. They always have the highest paid drivers (usually by some margin), which won't help!

Also I am surprised Mclaren have so much money... I remember when they got fined $100m, the reports said over the last few years they had only made $2m-$4m profit each year before hand...

Would have been considered as sponsorship and included in the budget. Effectively Mercedes would be getting the value of the engines in sponsorship perks from McLaren
