McLaren MP4-12C: Official Stats And Tech Specs

I really really really hope they make a GT racer version. They have rulled out a factory team, but I dont think they have said they wont do a customer car. Imaging this in GT2 fighting the 458!

Whitmarsh was speaking today at the launch of McLaren's MP4-12C sportscar, which he hopes can compete against Ferraris in the GT racing world. He has spoken to Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo about future competition between the two in sportscars.

"Our message there was: 'We want to race with you [Ferrari]. Where are you going to go? Why don't we go together?'"
So i wouldnt rule out a Factory McLaren MP4-12C GT2 programme yet.

I wasn't sure before with the orange version they've shown. The matte black one looks ace though.

Im gonna be a boring old sod and talk about the only figure no one gives a stuff about - the CO2 emmisions. Amazing that my 12 year old Peugeot van puts out almost 230g/km of the stuff and develops 69bhp, this thing is 8 times more powerful and only kills a few more trees at under 300g/km!

OK normal service resumes, I bet it goes like the clappers

I know what you mean, it is impressive. But there is no way you are able to put your foot down and use even a fraction of the power and still get 300g/km. That figure will be based on the car tootling around the standard efficiency test run.

I'm confused about one thing. Lots of talk on the PH link about obsession over low weight, yet it still weighs 1300kg (min). To my knowledge, that's similar to an Evora, which uses a Toyota Camry v6 (probably made of recycled steam boats). The old F1 was a good 200kg less.
Maybe Maclaren have fitted cast iron weights to the bottom of the car to lower the centre of mavity.

Engine is too small :( ...I don't give a crap about the turbos (would rather it was N/A anyway), it pales compared to the one in the F1 let alone some of the other cars around.

Looks and sounds awesome! After hearing a Ford GT go rumbling past at full chat the other day the V8 sound is most certainly the best on road. Want :(

Yes I can see how a bespoke, lightweight 3.8l twin turbo V8 that produces 80% of its torque below 2000rpm and gets to 124mph in under 10 seconds is disappointing.

I guess you'd better wait until the top-of-the-range car is announced before you place your order.

your comparing it with the wrong car.

The F1 was a proper hypercar in every since of the word. If the F1 competed with anything from ferrari, it would be the enzo.

The new mclaren MP4 will go head to head with the 458 italia, which has a 4.4 N/A V.8

thats what you've got to bear in mind that its competing with, and i hardly think that 0.6L will make the slighest jot of difference, the difference will be in the power delivery and character of the engine. Not the size.

Oh I hadn't paid much attention to what it was aimed at, I'd basically assumed it was supposed to be a modern take on the F1, I only gave it a cursory glance really.

I don't need your silly sarcasm though robbiemc, I just hate the way virtually everything seems to be coming out with smaller engines with forced induction now, ...it's just wrong ...massive N/A engines or massive engines with turbos aswell is what I want to see. It's happening to quite a few cars now.

Displacement, displacement, displacement! ...dang it.
