Boss said I'm in line for a promotion in from IT helpdesk to remote computing if I do 3 MCPs, but one must be Server and one workstation. He said start with Windows XP because that's the easiest to pass. I cannot make head or tail of this --> http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/benefits/default.asp

Please help, what should do I do :( Is an MCP one core exam or an entire qualification, what is a server MCP and what is a workstation MCP, I can't find any Windows XP MCP

You attain MCP with one exam.

http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcsa/windows2003/

You want exam 70–290 for your server qualification (its quite good actually), and exam 70–270 for your client.

Any idea on where the Windows XP exams are, the site only lists win2k?

Also following your reasoning, am I assuming that doing these 4 will equal MCSA?

70-270
70-290
70-291
70-284

:)

That's the exact route I took as it happens... though the order was slightly different.

Hmm having done 2273+2275 through work I might actually sit the exam- may as well get another set of letters after my name even though my workplace doesn't hold MS certs in high regard :)

who does? but it is handy to put on ad advert.

if you want an easy mcp, do exam 271. If you have a brain can be passed with zero revision! (i know 3 people that have done it, company had exam vouchers left so on the last day the decied to pick the easiest one off the list)

making you do 3 certs for a promotion off helpdesk is excessive imo. It will show your boss after achieving one your capable and willing. As an example, i passed 70-216 many moons ago working for a company who payed me jack squat, and they promised me a pay rise for passing. When the pay rise was £700 a year extra, i left and got a job which paid £13,000 a year extra... so by all means do the qualies, but at least look for a job that will pay you what your worth rather than force you to jump through hoops to get out of helpdesk work.

From memory, the XP workstation exam was in the region on £80. Courses can be any amount depending on who hosts them. I didn't do a course, just downloaded some braindumps and testkings to revise the few days before. I passed first time- granted, not with a particularly impressive score - but enough to get the certification.
