Hey guys,

I've just started a course in Computer Science and ive just found out it would be very beneficial for me to get a MAC as i'l have to use 3 different OS's that only MAC's can run.

Other then that i am completely MAC illiterate and have never used one. Could you please tell me the other pro's of a MAC over a conventional PC in terms of applications mainly.

Thanks

Mehmet

*EDIT* Im considering purchasing a Macbook Pro not a Mac Pro :P typo

3 different OS's that only MAC's can run.

I assume one of those 3 is OSX then?

MBPs really excel at Virtualisation... it's the main reason I use them. I assume you want a laptop? In that case the MBP is the one. Personally, I found the 13" restrictive however if you're very mobile it could make up for it?

Yeah, OSX, Linux and Windows.

Macbook Pro yeah, i personally dont like smaller screens, personal preference id rather have 15" upwards for a laptop.

I believe so as a specific part of one of the modules is all about different operating systems. I haven't read details into it. It could just be one or two operating systems but as I do eventually want to end up in Games Development, the more experience with different OS systems and platforms, the better for my CV after all.

The module will almost certainly be Linux administration. If you're in the market for a laptop anyway and don't mind/can afford the premium the MBP is a fine machine. However in my opinion buying a Mac to run 3 operating systems is not going to give you a significant benefit over a PC for the course.

If my computer science course is anything to go by then theheyes is correct, it will probably be linux. Universities would be aloud to stipulate in a module a piece of kit that most people wont have. Where as linux can be run on any machines pretty much.

How ever i would still get the pro if you have the money, beautiful machines.

Like was said above, it'll be linux and you'll find, depending on the quality of the uni, that their labs are more than adequate for any different os work.
