MCSE advice

Well Ev0 if you're happy with what you are doing and are not looking to move or move in a different direction then that's fine even if you touch a PC or server or are looking to continue elsewhere where there is desktop or server support then MCP's will make you stand out a little more and doing them is only going to make a positive impact on your CV.

I am currently:

MCDST
MCSA 2003
MCSE 2003 (yes I know the MCSE superceeds the MCSA but its still on my transcript so pffft!)
VCP 3.5

The VCP course was superb but the exam I found very dissapointing. It wasn't technical really (it was more about what is the minimum system requirements for running ESX Server 3.5 what is the difference between these two products) rather than fully testing your ability to install and setup VMWare.

It certainlly hasn't affected my salary positively but that's because of the financial market so we'll see what happens when it recovers.

If anyone has any questions on what's involved in any of the exams or VCP then I'd only be too happy to help. Contact details are in trust.

Our virtualisation guy is leaving soon so might end up doing one of those to help support things, could be interesting. Won't make any difference to my pay, however going on that there's not much to add on :)

(blimey checked my current job on there and down here it says it's higher paid than the vcp, need to show that to the boss!)

Oh I know that, and whilst my current place are throwing training budgets around I will be making the most of it.

Remember I'm not saying don't get certs, on the contrary get them but make sure you're doing things relevant to what you want to do.

For me an MCSE just isn't relevant, the mcp/mcts exams in my area however are and hence they are being taken, amongst other things.

Got a trainee desktop role coming up asap, no experience necessary, decent starting wage and benefits....
