Hi all

I have a MDA Pro and have heard that the installed T-Mobile ROM is bloated and slow. Is it possible to flash the ROM with a generic ROM? Is this worthwhile?

It can be done and loads of people have done it but no one actually wants to help directly its quite strange ive been trying for a month for some one to tell me in step by step instructions what to do

I guess we will have to wait for the official T-Mobile ROM update (apparently the German version is just out so hopefully it wont be too long ;-)

Gavin - have bought a case/cover for it yet?

Cheers, Bob

Yeah the german one was out the other day so hopefully with in a few weeks the uk one will be here, no i havnt got a case for it. I just use the one thats with it, plus im using it so much its hardly ever in the case. Sounds sad but i use terminal services and log me in to control servers, over 3g its very swifty.

Snap - i am using the orginal case too and not sure I would benefit from buying a new one because its not inside it too often :D . Your lucky you can access 3g because I have terrible reception where i live (County Down, Northern Ireland). I have read some posts on the net that say a 'radio' upgrade will help reception so I guess ill have to wait for the T-Mobile ROM update. Do you know if you can buy an external aeriel? I believe it is very very difficult to source the appropriate connector to run an external aeriel? Have you any access to this info? Cheers mate.

On the 19th ive installed and it runs lovely, not "that" much faster but certainly looks better and feels better some how?

Im now trying to remember the tweaks i done in the first place that made the older rom run faster to see if the new rom will run faster if you see what i mean?

Ive put the new T-Mobile rom on my Vario and seems to be a lot better now.
Only been on since wednesday, but touch wood, no having to do any soft resets yet.
Push email is brilliant. Using web2mail's free service and it works a treat. Main reason i went for Tmobile was to get web'n'walk and this new push email.

Whats this push email?

in simple terms, you need Exchange 2003 SP2 and a WM5 based phone with the AKU2 patch/update.
It sends email from the exchange server to the WM5 device via active synch.
Very usefull on web'n'walk, since you can leave it running all the time.
Once its set up, nothing to do on the client. When emails arrive at the exchange server, they are "pushed" to the WM5 device.
Mail2web offer a free account for this.

There are a few other push email systems that require a client installing on the WM5 device like emoze.

There is a good guide here on setting up the mail2web service.

So how is that different from just filling in the details manually and having the pda check every 30 mins or so?

Also ive just had a great idea for people on web n walk...................Online radio station streams!

im listening now to virgin radio stream on the pda using webnwalk, even gprs is bearable.

Just that, you dont have to get the pda to check for new mail. All new mail is pushed to the WM5 device when it arrives on the server.
Plus it will update your calender and contacts details if they change.

Streams are against their t&c's but otherwise a good idea :p.

Ah that sucks if its true:( wonder if they have some sort of limit?

If you look at bottom of the web'n'walk page it excludes strams in the small print, along with p2p etc
