Thanks mate :)

Let me know how she fairs? That's the one I'm after!

And I've just 'googled' it for £572.95; delivered to my door :D

SW.

what i will say for now is i am very very impressed and delighted to say the least. the built in freeview is a great picture. my pc looks fab on it and my xbox360 is outstanding.
i got mine for that price also. :)

what will you be using the screen for in general ?

Hi mate ,

Could you do a few close up pics of the tv displaying windows please. Kinda like that Xbox 360 dashboard shot. I just wanted to see the text size and clarity ( open a webpage perhaps with detail like bbc)
I am thinking of a similar setup. I was wondering if you can see or read anything from sitting in a sofa 2-3M away from the screen.

Cheers again

Sid

hi sid i havent got much time just now and i'm also awful with a camara.
however i can tell you i surf in bed laying down and i can read the screen fine about 4 foot away.

when the xbox360 is on the first thing i noticed (connected via component) was just how amazingly clear the picture and text was.

*********UPDATE REVIEW************

Review:

To be honest it’s more of an opinion on the screen I have used for a week.

Most importantly this screen can be had for £575 delivered (froogle is your friend).

Picture quality:

• Freeview: (built in)

We all know that if you stick your face right up to an LCD screen and watch a standard definition picture you’re going to be disappointed. However in the real world I sit 5 foot away from the screen whilst watching TV programmes and the picture depending on the broadcast is very nice to say the least. I’m not going to say it blows me away as that’s impossible and most people say this to justify their purchase.

• PC: (VGA)

I have the PC at the TV’s default computer resolution (1360:768) and this is a crystal clear picture that did “blow me away”. Surfing is a joy and the only game I played was Tiger woods 2005 and it looked the business.
The only downside so far (and I need to fiddle more) blue texted can have a slight glowing tinge to it, it’s not awful but noticeable all the same. The last test was a DVD film and watched 20 minutes of “the matrix” which was long enough for me to decide that it was great quality and a joy to view.

• Xbox360:

I have my xbox360 connected to the TV via component leads (joy tech £12 job) and this has impressed me the most about the screen. Brilliant colours, sharp text and no noticeable blearing thanks to the 8ms response time. Games are a joy to play in their native widescreen productions and I’ve chosen to play at 1080i over 720p but that’s just personal preference. And lastly playing a DVD film through the xbox360 I feel is even better picture wise than viewing it on my pc.

• Sound

No messing here. “nearly” all LCD TV’s sound is adequate at best and this screen is no exception. It has 10 watts total output- whoopee doo but lets not forget the reality of the situation and that’s connecting the TV to amp or hi-fi. In my case just a standard hi-fi and the sound is perfect for me. It also has optical out ;)

That’s my personal experience/view of my new TV so far and if your considering buying it I can recommend it and for £575 for a 26” beast like this you’d be silly not to. Lastly I would like to say I spent far to long picking this LCD TV as like everyone else I wanted the perfect solution but I’m here to tell you one doesn’t exist as all TV’s will have their plus and minus and we will only see “near” perfection when all TV signals are broadcast in HD so until then chill out and buy yourself a nice TV.

movingtables - I had a beer tonight with a mate of mine who works at ***ry's, and he said: "The Samsung is a great set but...

...The black trim gets really dirty with finger prints, smears etc!"

For me that wouldn't be a problem, because once it's up on the wall and switched on I doubt I'll have much need to touch it? Apart from the odd dusting maybe :D

I'm going down there tomorrow anyway to have a close look at both the Sammy and the Sony in-store ;)

I want to know for sure what I'm getting by the end of the week!

SW.

lol good stuff.
just dont have any beers whilst deciding huh ;)

You'll need an AV Amplifier, those have optical (and coaxial) inputs so yes it'll work. Just set digital audio output from the device, and choose which input on the AV amplifier..

im such a dumb ass i aint grasping this.
if i have a optical cable from the tv to the hi fi will all anything on the tv like my xbox auto play sound through the hi-fi? what happens when i am watching normal tv, will it auto transper the tv sound to the amp?
lol i hope that made sence.

sid said:
Haven't you already got all the equipment to try it with? Unless you want to save on a optical cable or your amp lacks multiple optical outputs I would just connect the x360 straight to the amp. Should save some hassle although you will have to change amp settings when you want to use the xbox.

sid

well sid the plot thickens :D
i aint got an amp yet. i wouldnt know what to buy lol.
my tv sound could be run through an optical cable to amp with optical in ?
and i could connect my xbox via left an right audio on the amp?
im only going to be using headphones so 5.1 doesnt interest me.

sid said:
Yup that would work, Are you looking for an AV amp or a intergrated stereo one? Most AV ones will come with multiple digital inputs/outputs you see.

Sid

hi sid thanks for your help i know im not making it easy lol.
when you say intergrated stereo i am thinking you mean FM radio?
if thats the case then i just need an AV amp.
so as my tv has optical out, will i get to hear the built in freeview out of the amp hooked up this way ?>

bought 2 cables this week:

i've used this cable to connect my humax PVR to the TV (RGB) to (RGB)
and i was more impressed than i thought i'd be. i think when buying connective cables for an LCD the improvements are more dramatic than with a CRT tv.

"Perfect performance is neigh on perfect" Home Entertainment Magazine.

----------------------------------------------

i also bought the following RF cable to i can watch my tv's built in freeview whilst my humax box is recording a different freeview channel:

again this cable improved my built in freeview picture a lot more than i could have wished for and i'm very happy with it.

cable info: Ixos XHV210-100 Male to Female Aerial Cable Total Cost: £20.79

XHV100 UHF Aerial Male to Female

Connect your FM Tuner, TV or Video to your Aerial wall socket

High performance coax cable
24 karat gold plated contacts
Triple screened to eliminate any external interference caused by power cables etc....
1m length

This is the amp i am going to buy (£180)

i wish to connect my xbox360 to it via the left and right audio cables.
also my freeview box has left and right audio out and i wish to connect this to the amp also. looking at the picture i have provided below would my freeview audio out connect to the "video" as i can only see "aux" on the front of the amp.

PS- i only use headphones so optical doesnt interest me.....

Do you want multi-channel or just stereo? Do you need multi-channel processing? Video switching?

Those inputs are all just line level stereo analogue inputs. Fine for a Hi-Fi setup, but not so for multi-channel. I have a 2 channel Hi-Fi system (CDP/DAC/Pre/multiple poweramps) and HT (HTPC/AV Pre-Amp/multiple poweramps/subwoofer/7 speakers)

You didn't need to spend that much for cables.

I just want stereo.
I like that amp and i want it :D
will it do what i need ?

ps- cables are loverly though and i did notice a difference so thats the important thing
