I can only stomache so many microwave meals..

We're in the middle of getting the kitchen refitted which means the oven/grill and stove are all unavailable. The only means of heating food we have are the microwave and George Foreman grill (large).
So what meal ideas can our resident culinary experts come up with that are tastier than microwave stodge and cheaper than a take-out every night?
For up to 4 people.

Already tried the 5 minute chocolate cake :D

Obvious is jacket potato with sausages and coleslaw/cheese/beans and/or microwave veg.

You can also do mash with meat.

Marinated meat with tortillas and salad.

Home made burgers

Can do grilled veg, courgette and aubergine is great for that.

get some of those plastic portion tubs you get from takeaways,
stick veg etc in them, pop a hole in the top and put a little water in them.
should be cooked after about 2 and 1/2 minutes depending on the wattage of your nuker

You can do rice, pasta and veg in the kettle. Could add some seasoning to some meat and Foreman it. Could make a white/creamy sauce quite easily in the microwave and then just add extras to flavour it.

Can you microwave pasta? By putting it in water and then in the microwave? Is that okay as doing just water in the microwave isn't particularly safe or reccomended...

Salads:)

Also, cous cous, just needs water from kettle.

Or... You could go round a friends, cook up a whole ton of spag bols, lasagna etc etc, then freeze and reheat when required!

For a stupidly quick and easy (and surprisingly tasty) meal;

Tortilla chips on a plate, grate some cheese and throw some salsa on it and chuck it in the microwave for a couple of mins.
Spoon some guacamole, and soured cream on it as well.

Making a shopping list of food to get after work - going to start making heavy use of the George foreman and microwave rice methinks.
Can you microwave pasta? (I'm assuming no - not from raw)
I've always done rice on the hob, how long does it take in the micro?

Cheers for all the tips so far. Microwave meals are annoyingly convenient so I get lazy and forget theres so much you can cook without an oven!

Really looking forward to being able to bake again though :) Expect a load of 'Baking with m0rte' threads in the new kitchen + new camera (DoF!) ;)

You could if you boiled the water and sat the pasta in it first, but I wouldn't recommend it.

No, I meant rice. You can get them rectangular tubs for a quid these days and they fluff up nicely if you stop half way through and add a bit of water.

Steak and kidney pudding, mashed potato, peas and gravy. All in the microwave...

Make the mash from the potato scooped out of jacket potatoes or with Smash if you like it, microwave the s&k puds, microwave the peas, instant gravy, demolish. I used to do that one at work :D

You can do a whole fry up in the George Foreman. The secret is cutting open the sausages and using them to dam up the eggs so they don't run out :p

Cous cous is an easy one.

Cous cous in a breakfast bowl. Season with veg stock powder, mixed herbs, paprika, chilli powder etc. Pour on boiling water to cover the cous cous, stick a plate on top and leave for 10 minutes. In the mean time, shred some lettuce, chop some celery and stick a couple of bits of chicken on the Foreman. Slice the chicken when it's done, mix it all together and serve.

10 minute meal. Tasty, too :)

We managed for 2 years with just a George Forman and a portable ceramic hot plate while we saved up for our cooker (boiler died and sofa replacement caused delay!) It's amazing what you can cook with so little!

Salad is a given but I quite like stuffed chicken breast, I experimented with all sorts but ended up really liking cottage cheese mixed with sunblushed tomatoes (don't need much tomato). Very tasty and healthy too!
