I have had all today and tomorrow to add some heat reflective material to the base of my Chargecooler.

However being mechanically inept has prevented me from doing this. I'm too scared. :(

Anyone else a big wimp or is it just me. :D

i'm not scared of taking things apart - if it don't come off then i just use the hammer, but i always forget how they go back together lol, must buy haynes manual

Just you.

What he said.

I like doing it all, and get irritated with it quite often, but will get stuck in. :)

Although if my brother is around I won't do anything, as he always comments on everything I do mechanically on cars, putting me down for how I'm doing something, instead of letting me learn...so I'm sure in his eyes I'm mechanically inept.

dive in head first :D

With only help from forums and a trusty socket set i have done the following

Fitted my exhaust
Changed the fuel pump
Refurbished front calipers
Oil Changes

Learn by doing, so far i havent yet not been able to get it working again within a day. Next up clutch and flywheel change. all i have to help me is axel stands a jack and my dad fun fun fun.

Course it is, you just don't know it yet.

The amount of rare and random tools I've bought recently is no match to how much I've learnt!

One thing that is a pain in the arse is tools. You think you have what you need then a weird sized bolt turns up. Allen and torx sets are a must have, full spanner and socket set and a good torque wrench.

Ideally have a way to get to a shop for the tool..or else your a bit ******.

Allen and torx I could have stomached. A full socket set I had too. But you end up needing deep reach sockets, vortex sockets, e-torx sockets. Then add ratchet spanners, flexi-head spanners, or both combined, and you start building up a weird and wonderful collection of tools!

Today, I've needed to get some weird things I forget the name of, one being a set of something that "looks" like torx, but is more squared on the edges. And I still need whatever they are that look like torx again, but have twice the number of splines!

I'm a self confessed cheque book mechanic. If its a simple job like plugs or oil change I'll do it, but for something more involved like when I blew my head and gasket I'd rather pay a pro to do it right first time round. :o

I've done mine mate, seriously it's mega easy, took me 3 hours, that includes multiple tea breaks and cleaning charge cooler, TB, turbo and all pipe work etc.

Brake pads, clutches, bumpers etc I will do, but anything that will take more than a day to do and Im like you, unless im skint, then I will bite the bullet.

Working in the bike H has its benefits. Got loads of ratchet spanners and most other tools. Ended up with two different bearing pullers and both internal and external circlip plyers for a rear wheel bearing.

Never had a need for torq plus or triple square though!

Head bolts were triple square, and can't take the crank out without the torx plus!

They had to be deep reach too, so more expense, think I had to pay £20 for a set of 7 long reach triple square (draper expert, as halfords don't do them).
