Razer have just released a brand new gaming keyboard called the Black Widow.

There's two versions, the standard and the ultimate. The ultimate has added audio jacks, backlit keys and an additional USB port. Razer have made a big thing saying how hard it was to backlight a mechanical keyboard.

Finially - a keyboard that has embraced how legendary the old IBM keyboards were! Sadly mine died years ago and ive always wanted to find a replacement that didnt look as thought it was dug out of a second hand shop.

Any ideas of OCUK will stock these?

those look pretty good.

OCUK stock the othe razer products including keyboards, so its likly they will get them eventually.

depends when they come out in the uk, looks like the release is for the end of september

Just seen this elsewhere and have discovered a "review" on the Youtube.

And the pages are now up on the Razer site:

Minisite with key blurb in Gifs and such: http://www2.razerzone.com/blackwidow/

They do look good. The video shows it better than the obviously CG **** Razer always seem to release to show their products (seriously, WHY?!). Anyone find a source for what switches they are using? Hopefully Cherry (and from the blurb, it'd have to be Red Cherrys, right? No fatigue, easy press, 50%actuation, click sound etc etc). But considering the Moderately low price for a Razer I'd say they aren't Cherry at all...

I see they are up for preorder. I have a Tarantula at the moment and the WASD keys have now worn away. So it's time for a change. Sad thing is it's only lasted a year, however it's a fantastic keyboard to us.

The Ultimate looks the one, shame you can mess with backlight keys on the standard.

They are using Cherry Blues, these look so good.

Only thing is now are lights worth an extra £50, I have a keyboard without lights now, and its fairly annoying when you in the dark..

I can tell this is going to hurt my wallet hard, but its worth it..

Q. What type of mechanical key switch does the Razer BlackWidow use?

A. The Razer BlackWidow uses tactile and clicky Cherry MX Blue mechanical key switches. Each of the mechanical switches has been sorted prior to manufacture to adhere to a strict design guideline.

Looking forward to this keyboard. Going to wait until they offer something other than a US layout though. :)

Yep, the consensu has to be to let the yanks find out how noisy these things really are, and if they aren't too bad, get an UK version.

But I'm not paying that ammount of money for a non UK keyboard!!

I'd be more interested in the Steelseries 6GV2 myself, but this is a step in the right direction for keyboards ...I've never found anything that I am happy with really since my IBM Model M ...which I still have I just actually use the windows key these days ...and would prefer something black.

I'm waiting for some more reviews on these, I need a new keyboard but even the cheaper version needs to be good to be worth the price for me.
