mechanical help needed

Hi,
Mate has a 51 plate Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Automatic.

It won't go into reverse.

Details are very sketchy on why or noises it makes but is there anything obvious as i've never worked on an Auto?

was about to say that, low fluid can do that. If the fluid level is fine, move on

First check fluid level. If low, top up and see what happens.

Second check fluid quality (If it is black/burned/gritty then it is likely that the box is FUBAR)

If a top up "fixes" the problem it would be worth changing the fluid and filter (if possible)

I am not sure which Auto system you have. Some of the later Corsa ones were controlled by electro-mechanical actuators which frequently go wrong but this normally results in error messages.

More details would be useful.
