Jacked Honda up to swap radiators as mine as shafted.... Anyway after jacking up onto stands I removed the jack. Oh no where the jack had lifted the car what I presume is the gearbox housing has cracked! I've always jacked on to this point because there is no other solid bit to jack on this car... So I get on with the rad change and think hmm I'd better monitor the consequences of the cracked housing. Start the car up and here this ticking. Thought "that's a bit loud to be the engine unless something is seriously wrong". It was not the engine it was the gearbox! So got under the car to have a look. It is definitely the box because i pressed the crack in further with my finger and the noise got louder! The noise is not mega loud, you cannot hear if from inside the car or when the engine is running faster than hot idle and it does not seem to be weeping fluid. Car drives fine and still goes smoothly thru all the gears.
So....with that in mind do you reckon I should leave it well alone or take it to a garage to see if they can pull the casing out slightly and then weld it? The car in question is a 183k Honda Accord Aerodeck worth no more than £500 so the resale value etc is not an issue. However, I don't want it letting me down as I use it for work.
This has to be No.1 mechanical mishap of the day.
