Mechanical keyboards?

I went into a certain high street electronics retailer today as my G110 is a bit old and I felt like treating myself with a decent mechanical keyboard.

I tried a Razer and a Corsair, black widow stealth and K65 I think but I can't say for certain, both had full RGB LEDs and said they were mechanical on the labels. The biggest surprise considering they said they were mechanical was the key action, it was absolutely awful with no click just a linear travel until it couldn't go any further. Are there any RGB gaming keyboards with decent mechanical switches like the IBM Model M I used to have many years ago which have a nice positive slightly building resistance until it clicks like I expected a mechanical keyboard to do?

Hmm not sure what kind of switch would produce that effect. Perhaps a linear switch with a high actuation force like a Cherry MX Green maybe. Really not sure.
 
The amount of people ya have to mute on voicecoms nowadays cause they thought getting clicky keys was a good idea. Imagine trying to do a 40 man raid with everyone using blues lol.

Depends though really, I've been in big raids but no one uses open mic's. I think clickys are fine for Push to talk.

I my self are switching from Red to Brown.

My god lol, nearly as bad as the guy that uses voice activation and it sounds like Darth Vader is in your raid :D

Sounds like the OP is describing MX blue switches to me. Far too noisy for me, silence (mx) is golden :). Might be better off with a switch tester to be sure but I think as others have already said, MX blues will be what your after.

I went out today and purchased the Cherry MX Brown Ducky Shine 5.

Seems good so far, But it does sound like what OP is looking for is Blue's.

Shame you don't live near OCUK i tried all the switches in store today.

Glad i went with brown.
 
If you can live without RGB you could always grab a Unicomp keyboard which use the same buckling spring switch as your old Model M.

Any reason you bought a Ducky Shine 5 rather than a Coolermaster Masterkeys Pro?

I looked at both and they look identical except the Ducky is £30 more. So in the end I went for the Masterkeys and I got it delivered yesterday and I'm quite happy with it.

I'll be honest i didn't get a chance to look at that keyboard but good to know.
Glad you're happy with it.

Only thing that i'm bummed with this keyboard is ducky has a 1 year warranty period :(

Fingers crossed this lasts me.
 
Actually I checked on Ducky's site after making the last post. The Ducky has doubleshot keycaps whereas the Coolermaster probably doesn't. So maybe it's worth the extra. The resell value is probably higher too.
