with XboxLive and PSN flourishing, bigger better gfx etc, wouldt this be an ideal time to refresh the Mechwarrior approach and include Online play?

imagine 32mechs on a map @ war, with decent world gfx, physics, mental weapons, and ultimately online play!

im thinking unlockables, upgradeables, levels etc...

but not mechcommadner...

Was that the game with the enormous control system?

Not that much was there?
I'm sure they can cut down the controls to simple toggle weapon change/cycle, aim, fire, "jump/fly", waypoints/targets and such...

But I've got to agree, time for a Mech5 :D

Chromehounds.

Persistent online war, squad based with the Mechwarrior 2 feel and probably the most online fun I've had since getting a 360.

That was a horrible game though, nice concept but implemented poorly.

I disagree. The single player game was quite poor (they were more training levels) but if you could get into a good squad and with regular players the 6vs6 online battles were amazing.

LOL!
That's madness... but I can see MS selling it along with the game or something, like Guitar Hero type, £80 for the whole came and controller...

they did, thats the steel batallion controller isn't it? it cost like 100 quid or something and came with the game.

I disagree. I really liked the concept and wanted to like the game but it was pretty dull.

I agree Mechwarrior defiantly needs a refresh in the style of mechwarrior 2, but I'd say its more suited as PC game then a console game otherwise its in-depth game play and controls will be dumbed down for the average console, I don't want to see my long time favorite series reduced to that.

Chromehounds was a good game, a good attempt at a mechwarrior clone but yes the single player was a joke.

mechwarrior (3) online on hte pc was a great game, particulary if you team up with a friend regualry

myself and a friend had a nice tactic, one would set up a small and very very fast mech, with little weapons except a tagger, the other would set up a big bad missile boat, reduce everything, engine armour the works, to get as many missiles on as possible.

the tagger would run in dodge and weave and tag a target, then activate the beacon, and let the missile boat fire from a hidden position.

we won some battles with that strat (one shot in on hte scout was usually enough to kill him though)

ahh i miss those days
