Right, now we've got a decent telly i'm planning on using my shuttle as a media box using media portal. But i'm wondering if it's possible to carry on browsing on the second monitor?

Going to be using an ms media center remote to control the main screen, and kb/mouse for the browser.

Will this work? Or does media portal take over the whole machine? (before i pay out for long dvi cables to connect my monitor!)

Cheers

Chances are that Media Portal will need focus, but its probably best to check the Media Portal forums.

Media Portal will take any and every input unless you effectively move the mouse from media portal across to the other screen.

However, as soon as you press a button on the remote, MP will take over again.

you may be able to ALT-TAB between focus like with windows media center still in full screen mode

there forums are the best bet tho

My work around to the problem your going to face (different windows taking focus) was to set a button on the remote to set focus to the media center software. So you'd have to press that button before you could change a channel etc.
Not ideal but it worked.

Just to note, some media center software don't like being on the 2nd monitor, well Power Cinema doesn't (buggy piece of ****)
