After having Smoothwall installed on my linux box providing all my routing needs I've been thinking about buying a standalone router and using this box as a media server.
A couple of questions related to this, what is the best media server OS to use? I'm assuming this would be something Linux based similar to MythTV or FreeVo. Any comments or recommendations here would be great.
Secondly, It's running rather backward hardware, more specifically a AMD Thunderbird 1.33Ghz with 1Gb of RAM. It already has 2 NIC's inside (as it was used a router) and I would be fully prepared to spend a few quid on a TV card or two to get it running properly as a fully fledged media center.
Can anyone give me an indication whether or not this sort of hardware is sufficient for playing/streaming HDTV and DVD quality movies?
