Ok, I picked up a Hauppauge Nova T500 TV card at the weekend and since then my scalp has started bleeding from where I've been pulling my hair out.

The card works fine, the WinTV software provided is appauling so I've uninstalled it.

I'm trying to get whatever software I use to output to wither Mpeg2 or Divx so i can watch them on my Archos, but I can only both GBPVR and Media Centre (on Vista HU) to output as .dvr-ms.

I've seen a few free converters around, but I'd prefer to avoid this step if possible.

Apparently GBPVR can output to mpeg2 but you need an mpeg2 mux and I don't know where to find one of what to do with it. GBPVR also gives the option to transcode of DivX but neither pressing the transcode botton of scheduling all recordings to be converted seems to do anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

They are various ones freely available for download that will default GB-PVR to recording in MPEG2 format (no extra conversion stage needed). There is a "sticky" (titled "Mux catalogue") that covers this in the "Community Announcements" section of the GB-PVR forums. It is pretty straightforward, hope it helps.

I found a piece of software called MCE buddy to do the cnversion instead so that I can use Vista Media Centre instead.

Having had a play with WinTV and GBPVR I've got to say that Vista MC is a lot more intuitive, easier to set up and looks better. MCE Buddy will pick up the newly recorded programmes, transcode them ot Divx and delete the originals.

It does mean that I cna't have the programmes straight away, but I'm more than happy to wait over night to get them.
